Hello all, We could feel the festive atmosphere in  foundation  this week. The children have been practising the songs for their Christmas concert and are ready to perform. We are looking forward to see you next week, all being well. On Wednesday we  enjoyed our Christmas dinner. The children had lots of fun when popping the Christmas crackers, wearing crowns and singing 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' for our dinner ladies to thank them for preparing their delicious food. Unfortunately we could not light the fire outside due to the weather so Mrs Robinson, with the help of the children and some magic spells created a camp fire in our classroom. We  enjoyed having a hot dog and a drink of milk around the fire.  Phonics In phonics this week the children were introduced to the letter sounds: y, x, z ,qu and the tricky word : 'she'. Next week we will use our phonics knowledge in writing. Maths In maths we have been finding the number that is one more from a given n...

Hello all, This week we have decorated the unit and it is looking very festive. The children have enjoyed helping arrange the room, with lots of snowy areas and Christmas trees. We have continued to practice our songs so there is definitely a Christmas buzz in the air. We cant believe how well the children are  established with the Foundation environment and routines, it is always a good time to reflect on learning and what progress the children have made since September which is quite evident from observing their interactions and learning on a daily basis. It is a pleasure to see. Phonics In phonics we continue with reading 3 letter words and captions. The children have been introduced to the letter sounds: j, v and w. Next week we will be learning the letter sounds: x, y, z, qu and the tricky word: she. Maths In maths we have been using cherry models to find the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them. Next week we will be finding the number that is one ...

Volcanoes

This week the children have been learning about volcanoes and have done lots of activities around this topic. Throughout the week the children  made a large volcano and on Friday we watched it erupt using  a science experience. I have attached a video for you to see the explosion. Christmas has officially arrived in Foundation as we have been learning  songs for our performance. The children are very enthusiastic and are very excited about a Hippopotamus that may be visiting us. We will be continuing with our rehearsals over the next few weeks so I am sure you will all know the songs by the time they get to perform for you. We will be giving out more details of the concert nearer the time as consideration will be taken in relation to Covid at that time. Next week we will be spending time in our outside classroom. We will be lighting our fire pit and cooking some food on it. The children will be looking at habitats of bugs that are around at this time of year. ...

Hello all, This week was anti bullying week at school. We have used books and other resources to help the children express themselves. We encourage them to to communicate their wants and needs and to work through problems with support and independently. On Friday we have learnt about Children in Need charity. We spoke about the importance of kindness, sharing and giving. The children shared their own experiences of acts of kindness and they were thinking of what they can do in the future to help the ones in need. One of the Prime areas of learning in Foundation is PSED which stands for Personal, Social and Emotional Development. It is important that the children have an understanding of who they are, how they feel and how to be with others. Our curriculum enables the children to become confident and helps them make sense of many new situations. Relationships lie at the heart of all human experience and interaction, and it is vitally important that young children are helped to lear...

Hello all, As we have quite a few children in our class showing an interest in Space, we have created a spaceship in our classroom. The children are very keen on role plying imaginary flights into Space. We are going to continue learning about Space over the next few weeks so if you have anything interesting at home that can support this topic please send it in. A new aspect to the revised EYFS is to support children with dental hygiene. This week Mia's mummy, who is a dental nurse came to talk to the children about their teeth. Mia was able to tell her friends about good dental hygiene and we would like to thank her mummy for spending the time with us.  On Thursday we had a minutes silence to remember people who help us and make sure that we are safe. The children did this by closing their eyes and sitting quietly. We watched 'The Poppy Story' which explains why we wear poppies, and we have created poppies in art. Maths During the week we have been matching numbers to cor...
