 Hello all,

This week was anti bullying week at school. We have used books and other resources to help the children express themselves. We encourage them to to communicate their wants and needs and to work through problems with support and independently.

On Friday we have learnt about Children in Need charity. We spoke about the importance of kindness, sharing and giving. The children shared their own experiences of acts of kindness and they were thinking of what they can do in the future to help the ones in need.

One of the Prime areas of learning in Foundation is PSED which stands for Personal, Social and Emotional Development. It is important that the children have an understanding of who they are, how they feel and how to be with others. Our curriculum enables the children to become confident and helps them make sense of many new situations. Relationships lie at the heart of all human experience and interaction, and it is vitally important that young children are helped to learn the social skills needed to interact successfully with other people and to form good relationships. This aspect of your child's development is ongoing and not just highlighted during ant bullying week.

Phonics

In phonics the children learnt the letter sounds: l,ll,and ss as well as the tricky words:' no' and 'go'.

Next week we will revisit the letter sounds we have learnt so far and we will focus on reading three letter  words.

Maths

In Maths we have been estimating quantities and we were learning strategies to count objects accurately.

Next week we will be finding the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them.

Following the children's interests, next week we will be learning about volcanos. If you have plastic bottles and small cardboard boxes at home, could you please bring them to school next week as we will use them for volcano building.

 Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once. Please make sure that you know what date you are invited to join us and speak to me if you have any queries. Child Initiated Stay and Play Sessions Happy New Year to you all.   Hello all,  It was lovely to welcome the new Reception class this week. We were very impressed with how calm and engaged in play the children were on their first week of school. The children are slowly becoming familiar with the new routines and new friendships are being established. We have enjoyed singing and story time together. The class took part in PE sessions with Mr Mills and the music lesson with Mrs Lawrence which were lots of fun.  Each week Reception class will take part in three PE sessions  ( Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and on Fridays the children will be joining the whole school for the music assembly and will have a music lesson.  Next week Reception class will start Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics programme and will take part in daily maths sessions.  Please remember to bring named welly boots next week if you haven't done it yet. Hello all, What a busy week we have had in foundation. The children have settled so well and are beginning to relax into their learning.  We  have enjoyed the outdoor area as we continue to have the warm sun. The class played a variety of balancing games during PE lesson and the children have enjoyed singing and dancing with Mrs Lawrence during the whole school singing assembly and the music lesson.. We are really pleased with the way the children are engaging with each other and all the activities. They are confident in asking us for help and also if they are a little unsettled they are comfortable connecting to a familiar adult for support. Phonics This week we have begun learning phonics . The children were introduced to the letter sounds: s, a, t, p. We have been identifying initial sounds in words and have practised oral blending.
