We have had wet weather during the week, therefore the children have spent a lot of time exploring the puddles in the garden. They have built bridges for animals to cross the water safely, and have made marks in water using sticks. We have practiced walking through puddles slowly, without splashing which was quite a challenge, as the temptation was too great at times. During the week we have continued learning about our senses. The children especially enjoyed exploring their sense of smell and were very excited while walking with a blindfold while being given directions by their friends. Following the children’s interests, next week we are going to explore different materials for den building. We will read The Three Little Pigs story and will be retelling the story while using the story stones. If you have a couple of spare bricks at home which you are happy to bring to school, we would greatly appreciate it. Next week on Tuesday Reception Class will take part in Perform f

The weather was wonderful during the week , therefore the children spend a lot of time playing and learning in the outdoor environment.. We have observed lots of creative and cooperative play amongst groups of children which is fantastic to see. Phonics During the week we have been playing various games where the children had to identify initial sounds in words. We have also practised oral blending of sounds in short three letter words. Next week the children will be introduced to following letter sounds: s, a, t, p. You might want to help your child to secure these sounds by  finding objects around the house that begin with the sound e.g. s- sink, sock, scarf, sofa, etc. Maths In maths we have been counting objects and learning numbers 1-10. Next week we will match numbers with quantities. When out and about engage your child in spotting numbers in the environment: house numbers, bus numbers, registration plates on cars, price tags in shops, etc. The children were very engag

The children look relaxed at school, enjoying new experiences and making friends. We are so happy that everyone has settled so quickly. On her visit Mrs Custis was very pleased to see the Foundation Stage children calm, engrossed in their activities. During the week  Reception was working on identifying rhyming words. We have played different rhyming games and have sung rhyming songs to develop children's sensitivity to the sounds. The children were excited while presenting their rhyming pairs which they have brought from home to share during carpet sessions. Next week we will focus on identifying initial sounds in words. It would be great if you could support your child in mastering this skill through playing games at home. 'I spy with my little eye'  is always the winner .Please use the letter sounds not the letter names. In maths we have been singing lots of number rhymes and have practised counting objects with one to one correspondence. The children were also intr

Warm welcome to all the Reception families. We have had a great start to the year with only a few tears in the mornings but happy faces throughout the day. The children are busy exploring activities and making new friendships which is lovely to see. This week Reception has had their first PE lesson. The children had so much fun engaging in activities and games. They have shown very good listening skills while following Mr Mills instructions. On Friday Reception class took part in their first Music Assembly and music lesson with  Mrs Lawrence. The children enjoyed singing and playing different musical instruments. During our carpet sessions we have been looking at rhyming words. We will continue working on finding rhymes next week. At home, I would like you to help your child to find at least two items (or pictures ) that rhyme e.g. cat- hat; frog-log, and bring them to school next week. Just to remind you that the children do not need to bring their water bottles to school as the
