The worms have arrived

The worms have arrived!!!!!    This week the children have been looking at the differences and similarities between worms and snakes and have learnt a lot about how worms feed and make soil. We have made our own  wormery  which  the children are going to be observing and recording what they see over  a period of time . This activity was triggered by their desire to find worms and take them home, we are now hoping that this will end and the worm community of Little Heath can live happily without the threat from giants picking them up and putting them in their socks .!!!!   Although they are now interested in snails, watch out.   The children have progressed enormously with their personal, social and emotional development since September and they are now really established with the routines and expectations of life in reception. As a result of this the children are able to access learning in a positive and enthusiastic way. They are like sponges and are absorbing so much on a daily bas

It was lovely to speak to you all this week and I hope your found it comforting to hear about your children and how they have settled into school. We understand the importance of communication and we are always reviewing our the systems so that we  make sure that communication between us all is the best it can be at this time. We are always happy to have feedback so if you have any ideas that can enhance the systems we have in place then please email me with your thoughts.   Here are the new sounds that the children have learnt this week. ck, e, u, r Our new tricky words are:  go, to, I, was. Please continue to practice these at home and make as many sentences as you can using all the sounds they have learnt. The children are very familiar with the sounds and are understanding how to blend sounds together to make words.  We are continuing to practice one more and one less in math's and the children are able to do this  with numbers up to 100. We have decided to do our wormery next

In reception this week the children have been busy learning about the planets and space. We have also found lots of worms in the garden and the children have been fascinated with them. I do apologise as I am aware some of the children have been bringing them home in their pockets and various other parts of their clothing. We have talked about this and the children know the importance of keeping the worms  in their natural habitat. We are going to be making a wormery so that the children can see the worms safely and monitor their movement. Hopefully this will stop their desire to keep them as pets! We have noticed how well the children are focusing during adult directed learning. This sometimes takes a few weeks as the children  get use to the rules and routines for our carpet sessions. We are really pleased with their attitude to learning and their enthusiasm, it is a joy to see. This week the children have recapped the sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k and we have been learn

I am so sorry I have not been around this week but a member of my household was displaying symptoms of Covid19 and told to be tested so we had to isolate. Luckily the test was negative so I was able to return on Thursday. I would like to reassure you that when I am out we operate with the correct ratios with experienced staff taking over. I am always pleased when I return just to see how much they have all been doing without me. The children just carry on as if nothing  changed, this does support our theory that the children are completely secure and settled at school, enjoying new experiences and making friends. We are so happy that everyone has settled so quickly.  During the week the children were working on identifying rhyming words. We have played different rhyming games and have sung rhyming songs to develop children's sensitivity to the sounds.  Next week we will focus on identifying initial sounds in words. It would be great if you could support your child in mastering th
