We began the week by watching the BBC news about our lost dinosaur Brodee. The children were super excited and are now waiting to hear any news from around the world about the dinosaur sightings. We already know that Brodee was spotted in Switzerland by Finley's cousins. This is a fantastic way of extending our knowledge about the World. On Monday Joseph told us that " Today is The World Bee Day". Using books and technology we have learnt many important facts about bees. The children then created bee posters and made bees out of play dough. By coincidence they found a dead bee in the garden which we have placed in our investigation box. The growing beanstalk and two way communication with the Giant inspired the children's  writing. They have written amazing letters to the Giant. It is lovely to see the children engaging in spontaneous writing and taking pride in their work. Maths In maths we have been counting on from a given number and played number games.
We had a letter from the police today. They have managed to capture some footage of Brodie running around the nursery garden. The children could not believe their eyes when Mrs Custis brought the letter to the unit and we watched the video. We have told the children that Brodie has gone now and maybe if they have any family who live in another country they should look out for him on the loose.

The children were surprised and upset to find an empty dinosaur den on Monday. We have searched for our dinosaur Brodee everywhere, but he is nowhere to be found. The children wrote missing dinosaur letters which we placed around our school grounds.  After a day of an intense search, we have decided that police had to be involved. The children wrote some letters asking police for help. We were a bit worried that we might get in trouble with the police for letting the dinosaur out. The children explained that they were unaware of the dinosaur being real, they were convinced it was just a plastic toy. We are still waiting for some news from the local police station.    During the week the children created their tie dye t-shirts which they wore during our Assembly. I was so proud of the Reception class. They have performed with great confidence and clearly enjoyed themselves on the stage.   Maths    In maths we have been w

Our learning this week has been based on  Jack and the Beanstalk. We have planted a magic bean which has already started to grow. We are hoping that as the children observe the growth of the  beanstalk, they will be inspired to create great pieces of art and writing. Our baby dinosaur  hatched on Thursday. We had a vote to decide on the name and it is Brodee . The children were very excited and have made an amazing den for Brodee. During the week the children have made yummy cress sandwiches from the cress that they have grown by themselves. The sandwiches were sold in our Foundation CafĂ© for 2 pence each. Maths Next week in maths we will concentrate on number bonds 1-10. We will look for different ways of making number 10 using two single digit numbers. Phonics The children will apply their knowledge of phonics in writing. We will continue to work on the letter formation. On Friday the 17th of May at 9am Reception Class children will be performing dur

What an exciting and a busy week we have had! The children as usual have taken the lead in their learning  and took the teachers on their journey with them. The leaning has begun from a group of children digging for some diamonds. Using the information books and a laptop we have found out that diamonds can  be found very deep under the ground, at least 90 meters deep, which was a bit discouraging. The good piece of information was that when a volcano erupts, it might bring diamonds to the surface of the Earth. This lead us to investigation of the volcanoes. We have done a volcano eruption experiment,  which was very exciting for the children. Children have created volcanoes in art and have written some volcano facts. While digging for precious stones one of the children found  a hard object which looked like a dinosaur bone. This has triggered the learning about dinosaurs. We have now a dinosaur egg in our classroom. The children are observing the changes of the egg while waiting for
