We are all ready for the half term break after eight busy weeks of learning. We are very happy with the progress the children have already made in all areas of their development. During the week the children observed a cat which often walks by our classroom window. We have had a little chat about cats and their habits, and have decided we wanted to learn some more. Using different media we have learnt many interesting facts about cats, and have had a go at pretending being a cat. We have seen some amazing acting skills! In Foundation we have celebrated Diwali by learning about Mehndi art which originated in ancient India. The children painted beautiful patterns on their hands and have learnt the story of Diwali. During the week our learning was focused on healthy diet. We have had a visit from Potters Bar  Children Centre workers who spoke to the children about keeping their teeth healthy. The children were very engaged, and were keen to share their own knowledge and ideas.  We have red Vegetable Glue story by Susan Chandler. It is a very funny story which encourages children to eat vegetables. On Wednesday we have made vegetable soup. The children enjoyed helping with all stages of cooking, and most were keen to taste the soup too. Next week we will be cooking in our outside classroom on the fire. Exciting!!! During the week the children created variety of repeated patterns. Next week we will extend our learning further and create patterns using mosaic tiles. We will be holding Reception parent-teacher consultations next week on Monday morning and Thursday afternoon. If you can't make any of the days , please talk to me to arrange an alternative date.

We have had a very exciting week in Foundation Stage. The children really enjoyed all the activities related to Harvest. We have red, watched and acted out The Little Red Hen story. The children made bread, which they then enjoyed for their afternoon snack. In art the children made corn dollies and have painted fields of wheat. The Harvest Festival was much enjoyed by all. The children sung beautifully their harvest songs and loved the little treats.   On Wednesday the 16th of October we will have a visit from Hertfordshire Family Centre Worker who will deliver a presentation for the Reception class children on oral hygiene. To extend this learning , next week we will focus on healthy lifestyle. We will read 'Vegetable glue' book, and we will make some yummy vegetable soup. Maths The children really enjoy using conkers for number activities. They have made a great progress in counting skills and have created their own mathematical problems using conkers.

This week our learning has been based on The Three Little Pigs story. The children engaged in the story in different ways. They used the story stones to retell the story, they have created story maps, and have constructed an amazing house in our classroom completely independently. We have also looked at different types of houses and shelter around the world.       On Tuesday the children took part in a drama workshop. They had lots of fun playing games and playing tricks on a dragon and a witch. As the weather was much kinder to us this week we have been going on nature walks. The children have collected lots of goods like acorns, conkers and sticks, which they then were selling in a shop. Lots of amazing, independent learning. Next week we will focus our learning on Harvest celebrations. We will look at hard work that farmers do to provide us with food. We will discuss the importance of reducing food waste and sharing with others. On Friday next week is
