We have had wet weather during the week, therefore the children have spent a lot of time exploring the puddles in the garden. They have built bridges for animals to cross the water safely, and have made marks in water using sticks. We have practiced walking through puddles slowly, without splashing which was quite a challenge, as the temptation was too great at times.

During the week we have continued learning about our senses. The children especially enjoyed exploring their sense of smell and were very excited while walking with a blindfold while being given directions by their friends.

Following the children’s interests, next week we are going to explore different materials for den building. We will read The Three Little Pigs story and will be retelling the story while using the story stones. If you have a couple of spare bricks at home which you are happy to bring to school, we would greatly appreciate it.

Next week on Tuesday Reception Class will take part in Perform for Schools workshop. I bet it will be a great experience for our children.

Book Fair
On Monday and Tuesday you will have an opportunity to purchase books after school. The Book Fair will take place in our school dining hall.

Phonics

The children have been introduced to following letter sounds: s, a, t.

Next week we will focus on the sounds: p, i and n. Please continue playing I spy game with your child to help them secure the initial sounds in words.

Maths

During the week the children had lots of opportunities to practice matching numbers with quantities. Next week they will be introduced to ten frame, and they will be recording numbers in different ways.

We are collecting conkers and acorns next week. Conkers and acorns are fantastic for number activities. The more the better!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Sheehan
