 Hello all,

This week we have decorated the unit and it is looking very festive. The children have enjoyed helping arrange the room, with lots of snowy areas and Christmas trees. We have continued to practice our songs so there is definitely a Christmas buzz in the air. We cant believe how well the children are  established with the Foundation environment and routines, it is always a good time to reflect on learning and what progress the children have made since September which is quite evident from observing their interactions and learning on a daily basis. It is a pleasure to see.

Phonics

In phonics we continue with reading 3 letter words and captions.

The children have been introduced to the letter sounds: j, v and w.

Next week we will be learning the letter sounds: x, y, z, qu and the tricky word: she.

Maths

In maths we have been using cherry models to find the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them.

Next week we will be finding the number that is one more than a given number.

If you have any old wrapping paper that you would like to donate to us, we would really appreciate it. Next week the children will be playing Santa's elves and will be wrapping up toys.

Reading days

Please remember to bring your child's reading folder to school on Tuesdays and Fridays. We will be changing reading books on these days.

 Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once. Please make sure that you know what date you are invited to join us and speak to me if you have any queries. Child Initiated Stay and Play Sessions Happy New Year to you all.  Hello all, This week we have begun learning songs for the Harvest Festival. The children found lots of colourful autumn leaves in the garden which they have used for cooking in our mud kitchen. We have seen lots of amazing pies and beautifully decorated cakes.  The children also loved doing a puppet show. They used puppets and dressed up to perform for their friends. Following the children's interest, next week, we will create our own puppets. Phonics  In phonics the children have been introduced to the letter sounds: i, n, m, d.   Hello all, Christmas has arrived in foundation and this week we have created a Christmas card factory. The children have enjoyed writing cards, putting them in envelopes and posting them in our post box. We have learnt about the Christmas nativity story and have continued to practice our songs for the show. The children are looking forward to performing for you but please do not be surprised if your child doesn't sing or gets upset if they see you, this is completely normal, and we will make sure that they are ok. It can be a little overwhelming to be in the hall with lots of adults. Hopefully they will all be ok. We have been looking at shapes this week and the children have enjoyed using geometric shapes with the play dough. The teachers supported the children with learning the names of the shapes.  We decided to collect some natural resources, we put them in water to see if they would freeze outside during the night. The photographs show the results. The children were amazed.
