Hello all, This week in Reception, we have been exploring the wonderful world of nursery rhymes and rhyming words! The children have enjoyed singing familiar nursery rhymes, joining in with repeated phrases and using actions to bring the rhymes to life. We have been learning to listen carefully to the sounds in words and identify words that rhyme, such as cat, hat and dog, log . The children have enjoyed spotting rhyming words and thinking of their own rhyming pairs. We have also played fun games to help us recognise words that sound the same at the end. Nursery rhymes are a fantastic way to develop children’s listening skills, phonological awareness and early reading skills. Through singing, repetition and playful activities, the children are building confidence in hearing and recognising sounds in words. Maths This week in maths we were learning about numbers 1,2 and 3 by finding quantities, subitizing, comparing numbers and problem solving tasks. Phonics In phonics the childre...

Hello all, This week in Reception, we have been exploring repeating patterns in both Maths and handwriting. The children have been developing their understanding of how patterns are made by noticing what repeats and predicting what might come next. Our focus story this week has been Simon Sock . The children enjoyed exploring the colourful socks in the story and used them as inspiration to create their own repeating patterns. We have been talking about patterns using mathematical language such as repeat, next, same, different and pattern . The children have also been getting creative by drawing patterned pictures , carefully choosing colours, shapes and marks that repeat. It has been wonderful to see them explain their patterns to their friends and describe what comes next. Alongside our Maths learning, we have been exploring patterns in handwriting , practising repeated movements and developing the control and confidence needed for writing. Phonics This week in phonics the children ...

Hello all, Today, we celebrated our Harvest Festival, and we were incredibly proud of all the children. They did a fantastic job performing our harvest song and enjoyed celebrating this special occasion together with their friends and families. As one of our Sounds of the Week was k , we have been learning all about kites. We talked about how kites work and what they need in order to fly. The children then had lots of fun making their own kites. Unfortunately, the wind wasn't on our side this week! This gave us the opportunity to think creatively about how we could still get our kites into the air. The children discovered that they could run very fast or stand at the top of a hill to help their kites fly. We loved seeing them experimenting, problem-solving and sharing their ideas. Our children have been incredibly observant while exploring our garden and have spotted lots of fascinating mini beasts . They have been busy looking closely, asking questions and sharing their dis...
