Hello all,
This week in Reception, we have been exploring repeating patterns in both Maths and handwriting. The children have been developing their understanding of how patterns are made by noticing what repeats and predicting what might come next.
Our focus story this week has been Simon Sock. The children enjoyed exploring the colourful socks in the story and used them as inspiration to create their own repeating patterns. We have been talking about patterns using mathematical language such as repeat, next, same, different and pattern.
The children have also been getting creative by drawing patterned pictures, carefully choosing colours, shapes and marks that repeat. It has been wonderful to see them explain their patterns to their friends and describe what comes next.
Alongside our Maths learning, we have been exploring patterns in handwriting, practising repeated movements and developing the control and confidence needed for writing.
Phonics
This week in phonics the children were introduced to the following letter sounds: ck, e, u, r . We have also learnt the tricky word I.
Please , keep revisiting the sounds at home from the Grapheme information sheet (placed in your child's reading folder).
Please, use the link below to access Little Wandle's section for parents. The children are currently working on recognising Phase 2 sounds Autumn one. The video on the website will help the children to develop the fluency and accuracy in naming the letter sounds.
