Reception

Hello everyone, We have made it to the Christmas holiday!!! I think we all deserve a pat on the back. The children have adjusted very well to the new rules and we thank you for supporting us throughout this challenging time. This week was very festive in Reception. The children had lots of dancing, playing party games and making Christmas decorations. Thank you so much for your very generous Christmas gifts. We are truly being spoilt by you. Hello all, What a busy and an exciting week we have had in Reception!  We have been singing, dancing, making Christmas decorations and learning about Christmas traditions. On Friday all the children looked festive in their Christmas jumpers. We had fun singing Christmas songs around the fire in our outdoor classroom and we have enjoyed the delicious Christmas dinner. Phonics This week we have been learning digraphs: sh, ch, th and ng. Please practise reading following words: shop, chin, this, ring. Next week we will be revising the letter sounds and the tricky words we have learnt so far. Maths In maths we have been making number lines and we have been representing numbers in different ways.  Hello all, This week the Reception class was creating winter landscape pictures for our art display. The children made winter trees and printed animal footsteps in the snow. With the sparkle of silver glitter the pictures look magical. We have introduced the new role play area to our classroom. We have a coffee shop with busy waiting staff, cashiers, kitchen staff and customers. The area is very popular and we can see great social skills being practised by the children. Phonics This week  the children were introduced to the letter sounds: x, y, z and qu. Please practise reading words: box, yes, zip and quiz. You can also encourage your child to write or copy the words. Next week we will start learning digraphs: ch, sh, th and ng. We will also learn reading the tricky words: we, me and be.  Hello all, As there were no sightings of the Big Bad Wolf who has gone missing last week from our classroom, the children started getting increasingly worried. During a discussion we have came to a conclusion that the wolf must be embarrassed about his bad behaviour so he is hiding in the forest. The children think that he is good now and they want the wolf to come back. They are worried that he is cold and all alone. To show the wolf the way back to our classroom we have made footprints in the garden and have written a letter to the wolf saying that we believe that he has changed and we miss him. The children were delighted and so excited to find the wolf sheltering in the den made by the children. The wolf joined in playing 'What's the time Mr Wolf' game which was much enjoyed by the class. Throughout the week we have been looking at animal footprints. The children have created variety of footprints in art and have become very good at matching animals to their footprints...

  I am really lucky this week as I am writing the blog for the first time.   We have had a very busy  week! We have been learning all about Little Red Riding Hood, where she lives and what she has in her basket for Granny. Today we had some exciting news, the Big Bad Wolf has gone missing! We have wrote posters to try and find him in our school! The children have been busy finding clues in our garden as to where they think he might be. The children have told me that they will keep an eye out for him this weekend and write about it should they find him! Next week we are going to look at the different footprints and marks that animals can make, we are sure we saw the Wolfs footsteps today! Have a great weekend. Miss Neal
