Hello all,

This week the Reception class was creating winter landscape pictures for our art display. The children made winter trees and printed animal footsteps in the snow. With the sparkle of silver glitter the pictures look magical.

We have introduced the new role play area to our classroom. We have a coffee shop with busy waiting staff, cashiers, kitchen staff and customers. The area is very popular and we can see great social skills being practised by the children.

Phonics

This week  the children were introduced to the letter sounds: x, y, z and qu.

Please practise reading words: box, yes, zip and quiz. You can also encourage your child to write or copy the words.

Next week we will start learning digraphs: ch, sh, th and ng.

We will also learn reading the tricky words: we, me and be.

Maths

In Maths we have been working on matching numbers with quantities and we have looked at the number line.

We will continue with exploring number lines next week.

The children already talk a lot about Christmas. They were very excited to tell us about the Elf on the shelf and about their Advent Calendars. From next week we will be learning about the Christmas traditions and we will have a Christmas card workshop in our classroom.

I have looked at the usage report for Reading Eggs and Mathseeds for Reception class. I am pleased to see that some children are spending time on home learning. I would like to encourage the parents who's children have not been using the programmes yet to do it as it it a great way of securing the children's learning that has taken place at school.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Sheehan
