Hello all,

This week in Reception, we had lots of social discussions through stories, books, and role play to help us learn about our school rules and the importance of being kind to one another. We talked about how our actions can make others feel, practised sharing and taking turns, and explored ways to use kind words and helpful actions.  

If you’re planning to go for a walk this weekend, please encourage your child to collect some natural treasures like conkers, acorns, or autumn leaves. These natural resources are brilliant for hands-on learning and will help us create some beautiful autumn displays in the classroom.

Phonics 

In phonics, the children have been introduced to the letter sounds: i, n, m, d. Please revisit these sounds at home during the weekend using the Phonics sheet placed in the reading folder. We greatly appreciate your support.

Please, use the link below to access Little Wandle's section for parents. The children are currently working on recognising Phase 2 sounds Autumn one. The video on the website will help the children to develop the fluency and accuracy in naming the letter sounds.

The children also took home a library book to share with you. Please return the folder with the library book by Wednesday. Please keep the sheets with the letter sounds at home.

Maths

Our Maths topic is : Match, sort and compare. The natural resources will be fantastic for exploring the mathematical concepts further.

 Hello all,  It was lovely to welcome the new Reception class this week. We were very impressed with how calm and engaged in play the children were on their first days of school. The children are slowly becoming familiar with the new routines and new friendships are being established. We have enjoyed singing and story time together. The class took part in PE sessions with Mr Mills and the music lesson with Mrs Lawrence which were lots of fun.  Each week Reception class will take part in three PE sessions  ( Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) and on Tuesdays the children will be joining the whole school for the music assembly and will have a music lesson.  Next week Reception class will start Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics programme and will take part in daily maths sessions.  Please remember to bring named welly boots next week if you haven't done it yet.  Have a lovely weekend!   Celebrating Diwali in Reception! 🌟 This week, we had a wonderful time celebrating Diwali , the Hindu Festival of Lights! The classroom was full of colour, music, and happy smiles as the children explored a range of fun activities linked to this special festival. We began by creating beautiful Rangoli patterns , using bright colours and shapes to decorate our classroom. The children showed fantastic creativity and care in their designs! We also made some Diwali playdough sweets , rolling, shaping and decorating them just like real festive treats. Later, we lit up our divas and listened to peaceful Hindu flute music , helping us to think about light, kindness and new beginnings. The children loved dressing up in colourful saris and dancing to Diwali music — it was such a joyful celebration! Hello all,  This week in Reception, we’ve had a fantastic time celebrating Black History Month through stories, songs, and play. The children have been immersed in learning about identity, culture, and the beauty of diversity. We read two wonderful books – "Happy in My Skin" and "So Much" – which the children really enjoyed. These stories sparked lovely conversations about self-love, family, and what makes us all special. A big thank you to Miss Nadie , who taught us a beautiful song from Tanzania called "Si Mama Ka." The children loved learning the rhythm and trying out new words in a different language. We also sang "Hello to All the Children of the World" – a joyful song that celebrates greetings in many languages and helped the children think about how people say hello across the globe.
