Science Week
This week in Reception we have been celebrating Science Week, and the children have had a wonderful time exploring, investigating and experimenting like real scientists!
During the week the children too part in a Science Workshop, where they were able to watch and take part in some exciting demonstrations. They were very curious and asked lots of thoughtful questions.
Back in the classroom, we carried out several fun experiments together. One of the highlights was our rocket launch, where the children watched in amazement as the rocket blasted into the air. We also created a volcano eruption, it did not work very well so just like real scientist we will repeat the experiment next week.
The children also explored dissolving different substances in liquids. They investigated what happens when we mix materials such as sugar and salt with water and discussed which substances dissolve and which do not.
Another experiment involved observing how flowers drink water. We placed food colouring into a vase of water and watched carefully as the colour slowly travelled up through the flowers. The children were fascinated to see how the petals began to change colour over time.
We also continued our planting project this week. The children planted cress seeds and are now looking after them carefully, making sure they have enough water and light to grow. We are very excited to watch them grow over the coming weeks and are looking forward to enjoying some cress sandwiches before Easter!
It has been a fantastic week full of curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning. The children have really enjoyed thinking like scientists and exploring how things work.
Phonics
In phonics we practised reading words with at least two digraphs e.g. queen, torch, short, march, shower.
Maths
In maths we focused on adding two numbers up to 10. We used a bead string and counters to help us to find the answers.
Have a great weekend!
