Hello all,
One of the highlights of the week was watching our beautiful butterflies finally emerge from their cocoons. The children were fascinated by the transformation and eagerly observed each stage of the life cycle. After giving the butterflies time to strengthen their wings, we took them outside and released them into nature.
Following on from last week's mystery story, the children put their imaginations to work by creating fantastic pirate ships using a variety of junk modelling materials. They showed wonderful creativity, carefully selecting resources and thinking about how to make the ships strong and unique. It was particularly lovely to see the excellent teamwork on display, with children sharing ideas, solving problems together, taking turns, and encouraging one another throughout the building process.
This week it has also been wonderful to see such enthusiasm for writing. We launched our very own Writing Club, where children have the opportunity to create their own books and independently choose what they would like to write about. It has been fantastic to see the children taking ownership of their writing, using their imagination, and developing confidence as independence. We hope to welcome even more writers to our Writing Club next week!
It was lovely to see you all during parent-teacher consultations. Thank you for your continues support. It is much appreciated.
Maths
In maths our focus was on creating repeating patterns and identifying the units of repeating pattern.
Home activity:
Provide children with a range of resources, such as loose parts, cubes and beads. Prompt them to make patterns with at least two units of repeat. Encourage children to pull out each unit to see the pattern’s structure and how it repeats.
Phonics
I phonics we focused on reading words ending with -ed and -ing.
We have practised reading tricky words: like, love, do, little, when, what, some, come, today, so, out.
Transition week
Looking ahead, next week is Transition Week! We will focus on helping the children feel confident and comfortable as they prepare to move up to Year One. Part of this will include spending some time in the new classroom, so they can start to get familiar with their new environment. We’re excited to support them on this important step in their learning journey!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs Sheehan
