Hello all,

This week in Reception, we have been busy exploring nursery rhymes, and it has been a joy to see how much the children have enjoyed them!

We focused on listening carefully to the rhymes and spotting rhyming words, such as words that sound the same at the end. The children did a fantastic job joining in, clapping along, and identifying which words rhyme. This helped to develop their early phonics skills in a fun and engaging way.

We also spent time building new vocabulary, talking about the meaning of words found in familiar nursery rhymes. The children shared their ideas confidently and used new words during discussions and play.

One of the highlights of the week was giving the children the opportunity to sing nursery rhymes in front of the class. This helped to build confidence, speaking skills, and self-esteem. Everyone was incredibly supportive, and it was lovely to see the children cheering each other on.

Well done, Reception, for your enthusiasm and bravery. We are so proud of your fantastic learning this week! 🌟

Phonics

In phonics the children were introduced to the following letter sounds: ai. oa, igh oo.

I have placed a copy of Phase 3 letter sounds into children's reading folders. Please, revisit the letters sounds thought so far.

Maths

In maths we worked on developing our understanding of one more and one less for numbers up to 5.

 Hello all,  It was lovely to welcome the new Reception class this week. We were very impressed with how calm and engaged in play the children were on their first days of school. The children are slowly becoming familiar with the new routines and new friendships are being established. We have enjoyed singing and story time together. The class took part in PE sessions with Mr Mills and the music lesson with Mrs Lawrence which were lots of fun.  Each week Reception class will take part in three PE sessions  ( Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) and on Tuesdays the children will be joining the whole school for the music assembly and will have a music lesson.  Next week Reception class will start Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics programme and will take part in daily maths sessions.  Please remember to bring named welly boots next week if you haven't done it yet.  Have a lovely weekend!   Hello all, This week was all about spiders. We red information books to fid our amazing facts about spiders e.g. Spiders have oily legs so they don't stick to their webs. Water spiders live in webs full of water. When we came to school on Friday, we couldn't believe our eyes. There were spiders webs everywhere!!! We had a walk around the school grounds and we found lots beautifully crafted webs.  Our focus story this week was The very busy spider by Eric Carl. The children created amazing webs for our school corridor display. If you manage to take a picture of a web or a spider at the weekend, please send a picture to school or email it to me. Mental Health Week

 Our focus this week has been children's  mental health, we created lots of activities to support the children with their understanding of emotions. The children have a good understanding of what emotions are and we have spent time learning strategies to help us understand that all emotions are important and play a role in who we are. The children had a good understanding of  how they feel and they were all able to say that its good to talk about their feelings. We created some crazy hair photos which the children enjoyed making, they added words that expressed how they feel which was very enlightening. We  told stories and  made our own to demonstrate different ways to deal with different emotions. Although we have focused on  children's mental health  it is something that we do continually in early years. Supporting and encouraging children to understand emotions is very important.
