Hello all,

Our focus story this week was Colour Monster. We spoke about different feelings which we all experience. We also discussed calm down strategies such as deep breathing, bubbles, count to 10, listen to relaxing music with your eyes closed.  During carpet sessions, we have been describing our friends. The children were good at identifying what's on the outside e.g. hair colour and clothes. We helped the children to describe what was on the inside. They were very good at this and were able to identify kindness, happiness and other emotions. 

This week we have also begun learning about spiders and spiderwebs. The children were very curious when finding out how spiders are catching insects for their meal. If you find some webs during the weekend, please take a picture and bring it to school to share with the class. 

Phonics

This week in phonics the children were introduced to the following letter sounds: ck, e, u. We have also learnt the tricky word I.

Please , keep revisiting the sounds at home using the Grapheme information sheet. 

Reading books

This week the children took home Foundation phonics books. The wordless books give the children an opportunity to practise book reading behaviour, grow children's vocabulary and make connections with their word knowledge and their live experiences. Enjoying a book together is an important part of your child becoming a reader for life.

Maths

In maths, we were comparing objects according to size and graded object from biggest to smallest. By ordering boxes in different sizes, we made a huge birthday cake. Using the correct size of crockery and cutlery, we set up tables for the bears from Goldilocks and the Three Bears story which was lots of fun.

 Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once.  Hello all, This week we have begun learning songs for the Harvest Festival. The children found lots of colourful autumn leaves in the garden which they have used for cooking in our mud kitchen. We have seen lots of amazing pies and beautifully decorated cakes.  The children also loved doing a puppet show. They used puppets and dressed up to perform for their friends. Following the children's interest, next week, we will create our own puppets. Phonics  In phonics the children have been introduced to the letter sounds: i, n, m, d.   Hello all, Christmas has arrived in foundation and this week we have created a Christmas card factory. The children have enjoyed writing cards, putting them in envelopes and posting them in our post box. We have learnt about the Christmas nativity story and have continued to practice our songs for the show. The children are looking forward to performing for you but please do not be surprised if your child doesn't sing or gets upset if they see you, this is completely normal, and we will make sure that they are ok. It can be a little overwhelming to be in the hall with lots of adults. Hopefully they will all be ok. We have been looking at shapes this week and the children have enjoyed using geometric shapes with the play dough. The teachers supported the children with learning the names of the shapes.  We decided to collect some natural resources, we put them in water to see if they would freeze outside during the night. The photographs show the results. The children were amazed.
