Hello all,
This week on Tuesday,  Reception class took part in an interactive Science workshop. We were amazed when found out that just by heating and cooling air, an egg could be squeezed through a narrow opening of a tube. It was fun making tennis balls fly in the air by using a hairdryer. We all eagerly watched another exciting rocket launch in the school playground. We know, that all of it was done not by magic but by scientific discoveries. We are all inspired by our latest science experiences and and we are keen to learn more.

Phonics
In phonics we practised reading words ending with -s and -es and we revisited the tricky words.
Reading books

This week your child will be bringing home a hard copy of their Little Wandle reading book. These books will be sent home on a Friday and MUST be returned the following Wednesday in order for us to distribute them to another group. We recently spent an extensive amount of money updating our book stock. Therefore, any books not returned to school after 1 reminder from the class teacher or damaged books will incur a £5 fee to replace the book as this will impact on our teaching of reading to other children.

We will continue to allocate the books using the elibrary and we encourage you to use whichever system works best for you.

Children will continue to bring home 2 books weekly—

A sharing book - to share with their family which they will have chosen from their class library or the main school library

A reading book - a book to read to parents / carers which matches their phonic ability and enables them to practice skills taught in school.

Reading books will be changed weekly. Children will have a Home – School reading diary which you can fill in each time you read with your children. Staff will also let you know when they have read with them. A long comment isn’t always required; however, we would encourage you to write in the book if your children found something tricky or there was something that you noticed was really positive. We always ask you to sign it, so that we know your child has read. Class teachers will monitor the diaries to ensure each child is receiving reading support at home as this is an important part of your child’s reading development

Maths
In maths we explored the concept of halving. Please practise halving at home by sharing small quantities of food e.g. blueberries ,or by cutting food items in two halves.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs Sheehan
