Hello all,

We have a had a very Chinese week in the unit with lots of exciting activities relating to the Chinese New Year. The children have made Chinese dragons, prepared and eaten noodles using chop sticks, looked at China on our map and learnt about  'Zodiac' story which explains the meaning of the Chinese calendar.

Our taxi rank has been very busy with lots of customers needing lifts to the airport. The children are keen to put luggage in the cab so if you have any old small suitcases that you don't need, could we please have them for the children to play with.

BAGS BAGS BAGS

From Monday 30th January could you please make sure that your child does not bring  a bag into school. Unfortunately, the bags are getting bigger and there is no room for the coats to fit on the pegs. I know that the children like a back pack but it appears that the majority of them are empty. Please speak to me if you have any concerns about this. 

Next week we are going to walk around the grounds and collect some natural resources to make art in the style of Andy Goldworthy.

Phonics

In Phonics the children were introduced to the letter sounds: ur, ow, oi, ear.

and the tricky words: my, by, all.

Maths

In maths we were exploring measuring height  in standard and non standard ways.

Next week we will be learning about numbers that are one more from a given number.

 Hello all, This week we have begun learning songs for the Harvest Festival. The children found lots of colourful autumn leaves in the garden which they have used for cooking in our mud kitchen. We have seen lots of amazing pies and beautifully decorated cakes.  The children also loved doing a puppet show. They used puppets and dressed up to perform for their friends.  Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once. Please make sure that you know what date you are invited to join us and speak to me if you have any queries. Child Initiated Stay and Play Sessions Happy New Year to you all. The children have made Chinese dragons, prepared and eaten noodles using chop sticks, looked at China on our map and learnt about the Chinese Zodiac story. It has been a very busy week. The children have also tried to do some Chinese writing which was fantastic. We always enjoy this festival as it really captivates their interest  especially as we are looking at other countries each day on our map. On Tuesday, Reception class went for their first school trip to The Snow Centre. The children were very excited going on a coach as for most of them it was the first time having that experience. I'm glad all the children found the courage to go down the slope. The children were amazing and the staff from the centre commented on our children's excellent behaviour.
