Hello all,
This week we have celebrated Diwali with the children, which is the Hindu festival of light.
The world Diwali means 'rows of lighted lamps' because houses, shops and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called 'divas'. Diwali always falls sometime between October and November, but the exact date varies each year as the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon. This year Diwali was on the 24th of October. The children really enjoyed learning about this festival, and we created our own rangoli patterns and divas.
We have talked about bonfire night, especially the safety element of the firework display and the children are looking forward to seeing some fireworks.
Next week we are going to be learning about an amazing artist called Stephen Wiltshire.
Phonics
In Phonics the children were introduced to digraphs: ff, ll, ss and the letter sound j.
Our tricky words were: put, pull, full, as.
We have placed the Phase 2grapheme information sheet for this half term in your child's reding folder. Please use it at home for revising the letter sounds thought so far. Thank you for your support.
Maths
In maths we have been learning about number lines. The children showed lots of involvement when creating a number line related to age. We drew a line of our growth starting from a baby and used examples of people we know.
Next week we will play dominoes and dice games to identify quantities and compare numbers.
Have a great weekend!
