Hello everyone, 

This week in Reception we were looking at the life cycle of a bird. We have watched a short video of birds looking after baby chicks and have made comparisons to how people look after their babies. When out and about at the weekend please keep your eyes wide open for nests and chicks. It would be lovely if the children could bring a photo or a picture of a nest of baby birds 

Phonics 

In phonics we have been identifying digraphs, trigraphs and the tricky words in sentences.

We will carry on with this activity next week.

Maths

In maths we have been working on doubling quantities. We used a ladybird and the printing technique to make doubles. 

Next week we will be measuring length  and height.

PE

In PE the children continued working on their tennis skills.

Music

The activities in music were linked to Australian theme and the children practised singing "Kookaburra" song.

The children are enjoying the sand pit, especially with the nice weather, apologies if your child comes home with sand in their socks. This area had created another dimension to the children's learning including, sharing space and resources, communication, mathematical and science language, capacity, volume, weight, full, half full, empty, wet or dry. The list goes on as we try not to miss any learning opportunities for the children while they play.

 Hello all, This week we have begun learning songs for the Harvest Festival. The children found lots of colourful autumn leaves in the garden which they have used for cooking in our mud kitchen. We have seen lots of amazing pies and beautifully decorated cakes.  The children also loved doing a puppet show. They used puppets and dressed up to perform for their friends. Following the children's interest, next week, we will create our own puppets. Phonics  In phonics the children have been introduced to the letter sounds: i, n, m, d.  Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once. Please make sure that you know what date you are invited to join us and speak to me if you have any queries. Child Initiated Stay and Play Sessions Happy New Year to you all. The children are happy to be back and have settled well into their routines. This term we have decided to hold some child initiated stay and play sessions every Tuesday morning starting next week.  Hello all, We have a had a very Chinese week in the unit with lots of exciting activities relating to the Chinese New Year. The children have made Chinese dragons, prepared and eaten noodles using chop sticks, looked at China on our map and learnt about the Chinese Zodiac story. It has been a very busy week. The children have also tried to do some Chinese writing which was fantastic. We always enjoy this festival as it really captivates their interest  especially as we are looking at other countries each day on our map. On Tuesday, Reception class went for their first school trip to The Snow Centre. The children were very excited going on a coach as for most of them it was the first time having that experience. I'm glad all the children found the courage to go down the slope. The children were amazing and the staff from the centre commented on our children's excellent behaviour.
