Hello everyone,

What an exciting week we have had in Foundation. On Wednesday the unit was in darkness and the children had the opportunity to experience play using their senses. Their eyes adapted quickly and we observed the children working out how to utilise their torches to enable them to continue with activities of their choosing. 

I have included a selection of photos that hopefully demonstrate just how dark the environment was.

                                            The children made shadow patterns on the sensory light.

                                           I positioned my torch so that I could cut the paper.

                                       We had glitter in the play dough and our torches made it sparkle.

                            We played with the sensory lights. We thought it looked like an octopus.

                                                           We made a fire with the wood.

                        We put the torches near the fruit bowl so that we could choose our snack.

                                                               We enjoyed reading books.


                                                           We made patterns in the sand.


Next week is Chinese New Year and we will be learning about this celebration. We will be eating noodles with chopsticks and we will read 'Great Race' story which explains Chinese Zodiac Signs.

 Phonics

This week the children have been introduced to the letter sounds: igh, oa, oo.

Next week we will be learning: ar, or and ur.

Maths

This week in maths we started learning about 2 D shapes which we will continue next week. 

You can engage your child in a shape hunt around your house or outdoors, to build on their awareness of shapes in the environment. The children have taken home worksheets, which they can use for making records of what they have found.

 Hello all, This week we have begun learning songs for the Harvest Festival. The children found lots of colourful autumn leaves in the garden which they have used for cooking in our mud kitchen. We have seen lots of amazing pies and beautifully decorated cakes.  The children also loved doing a puppet show. They used puppets and dressed up to perform for their friends.  Welcome back,  It has been a good week in foundation and the children seem very happy to be back with their friends. We have created a Winter area for the children to play and learn in, with lots of activities relating to the cold. I have included some photos for you to see.  Next week we are going to be starting  stay and play sessions. We have put families into groups so that we don't have too many people in the unit at once. Please make sure that you know what date you are invited to join us and speak to me if you have any queries. Child Initiated Stay and Play Sessions Happy New Year to you all. The children are happy to be back and have settled well into their routines. This term we have decided to hold some child initiated stay and play sessions every Tuesday morning starting next week.  Hello all, We have a had a very Chinese week in the unit with lots of exciting activities relating to the Chinese New Year. The children have made Chinese dragons, prepared and eaten noodles using chop sticks, looked at China on our map and learnt about the Chinese Zodiac story. It has been a very busy week. The children have also tried to do some Chinese writing which was fantastic. We always enjoy this festival as it really captivates their interest  especially as we are looking at other countries each day on our map. On Tuesday, Reception class went for their first school trip to The Snow Centre. The children were very excited going on a coach as for most of them it was the first time having that experience. I'm glad all the children found the courage to go down the slope. The children were amazing and the staff from the centre commented on our children's excellent behaviour.
