Hello everyone,

The highlight of this week was celebrating the Harvest festival. The children sung the Harvest songs beautifully and we were very proud of their performance.

This week our focus story was " The Gingerbread Man". We have been been using adjectives  to describe the main characters in the story. The children really enjoyed making gingerbread biscuits.

Next week we will be looking at the artist Stephen Wiltshire and creating art inspired by his works. This is part of our celebration of Black History Month.

What is Black History Month? It is an annual monthly celebration of the achievements of Black communities and the remembrance of Black history across the world. It was first celebrated in the UK in 1987 and takes place throughout October. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of Black history, traditions and contribution through celebration, events and education.

Stephen Wiltshire was diagnosed at the age of 3 with Autism. It soon became apparent he communicated with the world through the language of drawing; first animals, then London buses, and buildings.

Phonics

In phonics the children were introduced to the letter sounds i, n, m, b.

We were practising reading words: it, at, is ,in.

At home you might want to engage your child in practising letter sound recognition by playing with magnetic letters or you can make letter cards. This will help the children to memorise the sounds they have learnt at school.

Next week the children will learn the letters and sounds: g, o, c, k and reading the high-frequency word:

and.

Maths

In maths we have focused on matching numbers with corresponding quantities.

Next week we will concentrate on counting actions or objects which cannot be moved.

Have a great weekend!

 Mrs Sheehan
