Welcome back after Christmas break. Wishing you and  your families a wonderful New Year.
The children are rested and ready for new challenges. We have introduced the dinosaur investigation area to our classroom, and the children absolutely love it!!! The dinosaurs seem to capture their imagination which results in great learning and play.

We have also created a snack shop in our classroom. The children are displaying very good manners and enjoy being in charge of the shop.

This week Reception class has begun Pen Pals program. Step by step the children are introduced to letter formation. This week we have practised the letters from Long Ladder Family: l, i, t, u, j, y.

Phonics
This week the children were introduced to the following digraphs: ar - car, or- fork,  ur- surf.
The tricky word of the week was 'was'. To help the children to memorise the tricky words, from next week we are going to have the password of the day. When the children enter the classroom in the morning, they will have to tell me the password which will be the tricky word displayed by the door. The password for Monday and Tuesday will be 'the'.
The phonics for next week are: ow- cow, oi- coin, ear- dear, air- fair. The tricky word of the week will be 'my'.
Maths
This week we continued adding two groups of numbers and recording our calculations on whole-part models.
Next week we will continue adding quantities using coins.
Have a great weekend
Mrs Sheehan
