We have had another busy and exciting week. Wile in the garden I have noticed a group of children digging a deep hole. When asked what they were doing, they have explained that they are looking for Brodee, the dinosaur which got lost last year. I have encouraged them to dig deeper, and the hard work has paid off as they have found a dinosaur egg. We have waited for the egg to hatch and our little baby dinosaur was born on Friday. We think it is Brodee's sister. After the vote the children have decided the baby dinosaur will be named Bridget. What a lovely name!!! The children made a cosy bed for the baby and wrapped her warm in a towel.

On Monday morning we will be going to Oakmere Library. We might have some rain on Monday therefore please make sure that the children wear coats with hoods. They should all have a pair of wellies at school, if you think your child hasn't got wellies or the ones they have might be too small, please bring a pair on Monday. I would also suggest that the children bring a spare pair of trousers/ leggings in case they get wet on the way.

On the 5th of February we are going sledging to the Snow Centre in Hemel Hemsead. We need four more parent helpers to go with us. Please let me know if you are happy to help.

Phonics
During the week the children were introduced to the following letter sounds: ure, er. The new tricky words was: you. We have been writing shopping lists at school this week. Encourage your child to write a shopping list at home. Do not worry about correct spelling at this stage. The children should use their own phonics knowledge for writing and most importantly should enjoy it.
Next week we will be playing blending and segmenting games.

Maths
This week we have focused on one more than a given number. We also used the hundred square grid for learning patterns in numbers.
Next week we will use coins for finding one more.

The have enjoyed learning about the World. This week we have learnt about Turkey, Mexico and Scotland. Thank you for bringing the photos to school.

Next week we will be celebrating Chinese New Year in Foundation. We have lots of activities prepared for the children so we are looking foreword to the exciting  next week.

From Monday all of the Reception children will eat their lunch together. The children with packed lunches will take their boxes to the dining hall.
Have a great weekend
Mrs Sheehan
