The password of the day which is one of our tricky words occurred to be a great success. The children are excited by it and learn effortlessly.
This week we have introduced a map of of the world to our classroom. Each day we gather around the map and discuss the latest news from around the world e.g. the bush fires in Australia, the volcano eruption in Philippines. We also look at the places where our family members come from. We would like the children to bring some pictures or drawings of places they have visited or have a connection with. As a part of our science learning we have carried out a volcano experiment. The children were very excited while listening to the bubbling lava and have created amazing volcanoes in art and construction.

In order to develop children's number knowledge and counting skills we have created a new piece of maths equipment. We have recycled our milk bottles and have designed a hundred square grid. The children use the equipment during teacher lead sessions and independently during free play. We have quiet few keen mathematicians in the unit.

On Monday the 27th of January the Reception class children will visit our local library. Thank you to the parents who are happy to walk with us to and from the library. We need two more volunteers to help us on the day.

On Tuesday the 5th of February the Reception class will go sledging in  Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre. I'm sure you have all received a letter via Jotter app. We are all very excited. I bet the children will have lots of fun.

Phonics: This week the children have learnt the following letter sounds: ow, oi, ear, air.
Next week we will learn: ure- pure; er- corner.
The tricky words for next week are: my, you, they.

Maths: next week we will introduce coins to our snack shop. We will be also finding one more and one less from a group of objects.

Have a great weekend
