We have had a very busy week with lots of exciting learning taking place. The highlight of the week was cooking sausages on the fire in our outdoor classroom. The children enjoyed having a hot dog with a cup of worm milk. During the activity we have discussed the fire safety. During the discussion the children have shown awareness of dangers related to fire. We are planning on having outdoor cooking sessions fortnightly. If you have some good ideas for tasty and easy barbecue snacks we could prepare, please share the ideas with us.
During the week we have discussed Autumn weather. We went to the big playground and enjoyed playing with leaves. The children have collected some beautiful leaves which we then graded by colour from green to dark brown. They have also created lovely autumn designs in art.
On Tuesday we have learnt about Bonfire Night. The children were happy to share their own experiences of how they celebrate the night. The bonfire and the firework display at Little Heath School was a great success. It was lovely to see so many of you.
Phonics
During the week we have learnt the letter sounds: e, u, r, h.
Next week we will be learning: b, f, ff, l, ll, ss.
The tricky word for this week was: to.
Next week's tricky words are: no, go and I.
We have introduced a superhero into our classroom who is teaching us the tricky words. The children love the idea!
Next week we are holding a parent information evening about reading and phonics at school. The session will take part in our Foundation unit at 6 pm.
Maths
In maths we are learning about 2D shapes . We have counted the sides and the corners of shapes, and sorted the shapes in two categories: the shapes with curvy lines and the shapes with straight lines.
Next week we will continue learning about shapes through hands on activities.
Please encourage your children to look for shapes in their environment eg. a plate is a circle shape, a slice of bread is a square shape etc.
On Monday the 11 of November is Armistice Day. Our Activities on the day will be focused on Remembrance theme.
Next week on Tuesday is Odd Sock day for Anti- Bullying Week. The children can come to school wearing odd socks in any colour or pattern.
Have a great weekend!
